Tacky Sweater Christmas

Tuesday was our last day of work before Christmas vacation and it was also deemed "Tacky Christmas Sweater" day.

I do believe that mine was the ugliest! I look like Christmas 1983 threw me up.

I love the women that I work with! We have so much fun.

Day 18: Favorite Birthday

Day 18 of 30 Days: Your Favorite Birthday

There is no way that I can chose one favorite birthday. I love all of them. (Sure beats the alternative no matter how many years your celebrating)
I love getting cards from all the special people in my life.

And of course the beautiful flowers that Hubs sends me.

My sister-in law's birthday is just 5 days before mine so we always celebrate together.

My students love celebrating any ones birthday so they always go all out for mine. Its an excuse for a party and time away from classwork.

I do want to share one quick birthday memory with ya'll. When I was little the TV show Rescue 911 was popular and even though I hated it my little brother loved it so we would watch it. Well, thanks to this TV show I was always so scared that my house was going to catch on fire. I am talking about very paranoid. So at my 12th birthday party I was opening all my gifts and there was a BIG one that I decided to save for last. Cause we all know that you open the best present last and bigger is always better. Well, to my surprise (and horror) my "best" present was actually a fire extinguisher. I was so upset. And bratty I'm sure. I could not believe that my parents had bought me a fire extinguisher. Thank goodness they did. My cousin set our kitchen on fire a year later and I was able to extinguish it. I think I missed my calling. Should have been a firefighter and not a teacher.

It's All About Him

I just finished "Its All About Him" by Denise Jackson. Denise is county music superstar Alan Jackson's wife and she wrote this book about her faith and the hard road that she took to get to where she is today spiritually. If you have not read this book, I highly recommend that you do. It took me less then 2 days to finish it. Even if your not a fan of country music this book can still do your heart and soul good.

(BTW, don't click on the picture. It won't take you anywhere. Its just the only one I could find on Google)

Teacher Christmas

Last night a bunch of the women from work got together for our annual girl's Christmas party. Each year we go out to dinner and do a small gift exchange. Each person brings a wrapped gift and we play Chinese Christmas.

I am so blessed to have a job that I love going to everyday and part of the reason is these amazing women that I get to work with.
This is the lovely gift I ended up with. These are two tumblers. One says "Dear Santa, I want one of everything" and the other one says "Have yourself a Merry little cocktail".

A Downtown Date

Saturday night Hubs and I had plans to go here...

The Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, NC
(this is a picture I took when I went in December 2008)

For the entire month of December The Library has a live nativity scene, carriage rides, lights, and lots of great Christmas activites. It seemed like everyone else had the same idea as us though. You would not have beleived the lines of cars waiting to even get in the parking lot. It didn't take us long to decide that we were not going to wait. I was upset though cause I really wanted Hub's to see it. If you in or around the Charlotte area in December make it a point to visit the Billy Graham Library. It really is one of the most beautiful places around.

Since we were already in Charlotte (which is only about 30-40 minutes from us) we decided to take our date night downtown.

So pretty at night

One of the many beautiful Christmas trees in Downtown Charlotte.

We ate at one of our favorite downtown resteraunts; Rock Bottoms. It was so yummy and we didn't have to wait long at all which was nice.

Just a little picture of Hubs. See the leftovers he's carrying? Well my sweet man gave them to the homeless guy that was sleeping on the bench close to our car. I think the guy got mad that Hubs woke him up but I still thought it was thoughtful of Hubs.

Friday 5's: Favorite Gifts

Today I have linked up with

to paricitpate in her Friday Five's.

This week's topic is: 5 favorite gifts that you have ever gotten or given- take it all the way back to the kid days!
For several years I have made my mom a photo calander. She loves them and I love making them so its a win-win.

Hubs got me an I-Touch with arm case. I love having it to work out with. Now, if I just loved to work out, lol.

I shared this phone the other day but it was one of my all time favorite gifts so I had to include it again. I also got my very own phone number the same Christmas. I don't remember being important enough that I needed my own phone line but I guess my parent's were running out of ways to spoil me.
This camera was a pre-Christmas gift from Hubs a few years ago. He gave it to me early so that I could have it on my trip to Disney World. I still use it. It has been the best camera. So small and easy to use.

I know that for most this last gift may be a little boring but if you ever need to buy me something and need an idea; books are always a safe bet for me. My mother-in-law is the best about buying me books for Christmas.

Tour of Homes

Sunday afternoon Hubs and I did a local (very small town's) Christmas tour of homes.

The house above is a house that I pass all the time and have said a million times that I want to see the inside of it. So when I saw that it was going to be on the tour of homes I was willing to pay a small fortune to see inside. Thankfully it was only $10 per ticket.
This is my dream home. It was as beautiful on the inside and it is on the outside.
Don't you just love it?
The original house was built in 1920 and it was remodeled and added on to in 1996. The original house was just one story.
This house is in the back yard. It was built in 1875. They use is as a large "man's room". This was Hub's favorite part of all the houses.

Don't we look like we're having fun? I was so thankful that Hub's went with me.

This house is next door to the white house. The same owner built both of these homes. The owners told us a funny story about how the yellow house was built first and the woman that lived there was so scared that the house was going to catch on fire that she made her husband build another house and when he built the white one for her it had 8 doors in it so that no matter where she was in the house if a fire broke out she would be able to get outside. The next house on the tour was a 1940's cap cod. I loved the landscape in this house. There was a ton of closets and a lot of little rooms.

The 3rd house was a 1900's pre-WWII home. It was really nicely decorated. I would kill for the bathroom in this home. Fireplace with a chandelier over the claw-foot tub. The perfect place to enjoy a good book and glass of wine.

I don't know how well you can see this picture but the couple had a "Bottle Tree" made of old wine bottles. It's a southern tradition that dates back to slave women designed to keep the evil spirits away.

This was the final home. It is also a 1900's home. It was really large and I loved the kitchen and laundry room in it. They were very large and open.

We went back by the white house and this was it all lit up in the dark. The picture quality s horrible though.
