Beachy Book Reviews

The beach was perfect. I got tons of sun and knocked 2 books off my summer reading list. I'll share pictures from our vacation soon but I wanted to go ahead and do a couple of book reviews.

The first book I read on vacation was Sweet Valley Confidential. I grew up being a huge Sweet Valley fan. Maybe that will soften my next sentence. This book was the worst thing I have ever read. It was terrible. I had to make myself finish it.

These Things Hidden is the second book from Heather Gudenkauf. I read her debut novel last year and loved it. These Things Hidden is a definite must read. This book reads so fast due to the very short chapters and I love the way it is told from several view points.

Plus, he is the funniest thing in the world.

Weekend Review: Beach Music and Pool Days

Friday night I went to Downtown Alive to hear the Chairmen of the Board which is a Carolina Beach Band. I love beach music and shagging. I do believe I will be signing up for shagging lessons very soon. It was a beautiful night to be outside. Sorry the picture is so small. It was taken with my phone and I have no idea how to get pics from my phone uploaded on here so this one was taken from facebook but I couldn't get it to be any larger.

Saturday I spent the day during one of my favorite things... laying out by the pool and reading. I also got burnt up. I actually tan very well so the red has already changed to brown. Saturday night I got some take out Japanese food and watched The Roommate.

Sunday I spent another day by the pool and then we grilled out. It was a wonderful and very relaxing weekend. I need another one of those soon. This coming weekend we are going to the beach for Memorial Day and I cannot wait. I am so excited to be sitting in the sand.

A day for awards

Thursday was Awards Day at school. Its a 2 hour program for all the parents to come and watch their children get recognized for scholarships and awards that teachers and the community give out.

Madison (my shortstop) received the Female Athlete of the Year award. And she is only a freshman. I can't wait to see what all she accomplishes in the next three years.

Later that night we had our Spring athletic banquet.

Tori received the coaches award. She is my senior 2nd baseman and will be greatly missed next year.

and of course we never miss a photo opportunity

Enchanted Evening

So I mentioned before that myself and 2 of my co-workers were placed in charge of the prom this year. I will start out by saying that this was not my cup of tea. At all. I am not creative or crafty. I do not like to decorate. But I like being in charge so I was basically the boss and did all the calls and planning and let them do all the creative things. Which btw, they did a wonderful job as you will see from the pictures below.

Enchanted Evening

This was in the entry way. It wasn't finished at this point so I'm not sure why I took a picture of it.

My favorite part... the food tables. Being in charge also means you pick the menu.

In the main ballroom there is always a spot for candid pictures so we tried creating a garden theme.

The main entry way.

Us after a loooonnnngggg days work.

Weekend Movie and Book Reviews

This weekend was a lazy weekend which was exactly what I needed after running around last weekend for Prom. (Which btw I know I still need to post pictures and I will get on that soon, I promise).

I watched two movies on dvd that I got from the Redbox (which very well may be one of the greatest inventions of all time).

The Resident was a thriller and it was actually pretty good. Plus it had this hottie in it...

I also watched No Strings Attached which I had been wanting to see. It was okay. Nothing great and the language was pretty vulgar. Ashton Kutcher is always really funny though so it was worth the $1 that I paid.

Sunday I went to the movies and saw BridesMaids. It was really funny but once again the language was horrible! I had wanted to see Something Borrowed and waited till the last minute to decide between the two. I wish now I would have seen Something Borrowed.

Also, I finished my first book on my new Nook. I read Here, Home, Hope and enjoyed it. I love my Nook! It does great with reading outside and I honestly feel like I read faster on it then I do a regular book. I have already purchased my next book The Midwife's Confession by Diane Chamberlain which ya'll know is one of my favorite authors.

I recommend adding Here, Home, Hope to your summer reading list. It's actually a pretty short book and was a fast and easy read.

Spring Giveaway Winner

I am SUPER SORRY. I was supposed to post the winner of my Spring Spoon Ring Giveaway last Tuesday and I had a horribly busy week.

So without farther ado and after a random drawing by one of my students (lol) the winner is...

Cherish at Southern Soul Mates

If you haven't checked out her blog before then you need to rush over. She seems like such a beautiful girl inside and out.

Waiting on my "new"

"Forget what happened before, and do not think about the past. Look at the new thing I am going to do. It is already happening. Don't you see it? ~ Isaiah 43:18-19

Its a Monday!

This weekend was so busy and stressful that I need another one right now!

Prom was a success Saturday night and I am so releieved that it is over. I will post pics soon.

I used my Nook for the first time outside yesterday by the pool and it worked great. There was absolutely no glare. I feel like I read faster on the Nook then I do a regular paper book.

I need a beach trip soon! Really soon.

Don't forget to enter my Spring Giveaway here. Tonight is the last night to get your entries in. A winner will be drawn and announced tomorrow morning.

Prom Night: What to Wear?

So tonight is prom night for the high school I teach at. And guess who was made the new prom chair this year; yes, yours truly. I hate it!!! Let me just start by saying that it is a ton of work and with all the paperwork that my job as an EC teacher requires (especially at the end of the year) I did not have time for all this. Anyways, I'll get off my little soapbox now.

This year I am struggling with what to wear. I do not care to go out and buy anything but I really don't have a lot to choose from that I already own.

This is Hubs and I at the prom in 2009.

Here's a closer look at what I wore. I think another teacher is going to borrow this dress and wear it. It was a JCPenney clearance find.

Last year I wore this black dress with a sheer ruffle top. I love this dress and would wear it again but I think that's a fashion no-no or something.

I don't really think its appropriate to wear a strapless dress which rules out several choices. I do have a one shoulder that is a possibility but I am still a little cautious about it.

Easter Weekend

I have been trying to get all the pictures from spring break loaded onto my computer. I have been such a horrible blogger lately so I am trying to play catch up now.

Here is our Easter weekend recap:

Saturday night Hubs and I went to dinner and I was able to drag him to the movies to see Water for Elephants. I had read the book and loved it and while the movie was good it was too much to sit down and watch at one time. The movie included everything that happened in the book and it was a lot to take in in one sitting. Hubs fell asleep.

Sunday we went to church and then had lunch at my aunts.

Us in our Easter best.

My aunt did an "adult egg hunt" and we searched for eggs filled with money or lottery tickets. I was the big winner with a total of $24. One of my eggs had a scratch off ticket that was a $20 winner. That is the most I have ever won off a ticket.

Hubs surprised me with this Easter basket. He knows I love Reese's Eggs and the M&M man was so yummy. We ended up going and getting 2 more of him after Easter.

Hub's Easter gifts included a tie rack and new bathroom rug (lol). I promise Hub's doesn't stink; I just stuffed his basket with goodies I had gotten for free at CVS. Gotta love some Extra Bucks back!
