Day 18: Favorite Birthday
And of course the beautiful flowers that Hubs sends me.
My sister-in law's birthday is just 5 days before mine so we always celebrate together.
My students love celebrating any ones birthday so they always go all out for mine. Its an excuse for a party and time away from classwork.
I do want to share one quick birthday memory with ya'll. When I was little the TV show Rescue 911 was popular and even though I hated it my little brother loved it so we would watch it. Well, thanks to this TV show I was always so scared that my house was going to catch on fire. I am talking about very paranoid. So at my 12th birthday party I was opening all my gifts and there was a BIG one that I decided to save for last. Cause we all know that you open the best present last and bigger is always better. Well, to my surprise (and horror) my "best" present was actually a fire extinguisher. I was so upset. And bratty I'm sure. I could not believe that my parents had bought me a fire extinguisher. Thank goodness they did. My cousin set our kitchen on fire a year later and I was able to extinguish it. I think I missed my calling. Should have been a firefighter and not a teacher.

A Downtown Date
The Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, NC
(this is a picture I took when I went in December 2008)
For the entire month of December The Library has a live nativity scene, carriage rides, lights, and lots of great Christmas activites. It seemed like everyone else had the same idea as us though. You would not have beleived the lines of cars waiting to even get in the parking lot. It didn't take us long to decide that we were not going to wait. I was upset though cause I really wanted Hub's to see it. If you in or around the Charlotte area in December make it a point to visit the Billy Graham Library. It really is one of the most beautiful places around.
So pretty at night
We ate at one of our favorite downtown resteraunts; Rock Bottoms. It was so yummy and we didn't have to wait long at all which was nice.

Friday 5's: Favorite Gifts
to paricitpate in her Friday Five's.
This week's topic is: 5 favorite gifts that you have ever gotten or given- take it all the way back to the kid days!
Hubs got me an I-Touch with arm case. I love having it to work out with. Now, if I just loved to work out, lol.
I know that for most this last gift may be a little boring but if you ever need to buy me something and need an idea; books are always a safe bet for me. My mother-in-law is the best about buying me books for Christmas.

Tour of Homes
Don't we look like we're having fun? I was so thankful that Hub's went with me.
This house is next door to the white house. The same owner built both of these homes. The owners told us a funny story about how the yellow house was built first and the woman that lived there was so scared that the house was going to catch on fire that she made her husband build another house and when he built the white one for her it had 8 doors in it so that no matter where she was in the house if a fire broke out she would be able to get outside. The next house on the tour was a 1940's cap cod. I loved the landscape in this house. There was a ton of closets and a lot of little rooms.
The 3rd house was a 1900's pre-WWII home. It was really nicely decorated. I would kill for the bathroom in this home. Fireplace with a chandelier over the claw-foot tub. The perfect place to enjoy a good book and glass of wine.
I don't know how well you can see this picture but the couple had a "Bottle Tree" made of old wine bottles. It's a southern tradition that dates back to slave women designed to keep the evil spirits away.
This was the final home. It is also a 1900's home. It was really large and I loved the kitchen and laundry room in it. They were very large and open.
We went back by the white house and this was it all lit up in the dark. The picture quality s horrible though.
