GNO

A few weekends ago I went out with some gals from work.
We went to dinner and then to a local "country" club.

And by country I don't mean golf courses and fancy houses. This club is more belt buckles and cowboy hats.

It was nice to get out with some women that I usually only see at work.

Teachers know how to have fun!

My night out did make me realize that the "club" and "party" scene aren't really my style. Don't get me wrong; I like my beer, but I decided to be the driver that night just because I'm not a big fan of going out and drinking a lot.

Christmas Challange: Day 1

I am particpating in Aly's & Molly's 12 Day's of Christmas blog challange.

Day 1: Christmas Traditions

Hub's family does live 2 hours away from us so holidays have always been something that we have had to compromise on. Thankfully it has always worked out perfect. Heres a run down of our schedule:

Christmas Eve

5pm - dinner party with my dad's side of the family

8pm - desserts and presents with my mom's side of the family

Home to wait for Santa

Christmas Day

breakfast with my family and presents

lunch - head to Hub's parents for Christmas

then we usually go to the beach for a few days.

not really sure what the plans are for that this year.

Christmas Cards 2010

I know that we've all seen this on tons of blogs; but really who can pass up on an offer of 50 free Christmas cards from Shutterfly.

Shutterfly has the cutest cards ever.

I can't wait to get started on my own Christmas card for this year.

I am really liking the brown cards.
I think they add elegance and are unique from the traditional red and green cards.

Thats What Faith Can Do

Everybody falls sometimes
Gotta find the strength to rise
From the ashes and make a new beginning
Anyone can feel the ache
You think its more than you can take
But you are stronger, stronger than you know
Don't you give up now
The sun will soon be shining
You gotta face the clouds
To find the silver lining
I've seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn't ever end
Even when the sky is falling
And I've seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That's what faith can do
It doesn't matter what you've heard
Impossible is not a word
It's just a reason for someone not to try
Everybody's scared to death
When they decide to take that step
Out on the waterIt'll be alright
Life is so much more
Than what your eyes are seeing
You will find your way
If you keep believing
I've seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn't ever end
Even when the sky is falling
And I've seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That's what faith can do
Overcome the odds
You don't have a chance
(That's what faith can do)
When the world says you can't
It'll tell you that you can!
I've seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn't ever end
Even when the sky is falling
And I've seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That's what faith can do
That's what faith can do!
Even if you fall sometimes
You will have the strength to rise

The Beacon

I'm sure that most of you have seen the Food Network show; Diner's, Drive-In's, and Dives. Momma and I love that show. One of the places that has been featured on the show is a landmark called The Beacon in Spartanburg, SC. Since Thursday was a holiday which meant no work for moi we decided to drive an hour south and do some shopping and have lunch at The Beacon.

I don't think SC schools were out for Veteran's Day because they were 1,500 middle school students enjoying lunch too.

The same black man has been working at The Beacon since it opened in the early 1960's. When you walk in he yells at you to "Hollar it out" which means please place you order. You then move down the line with you tray an pick up you sweet tea (which is supposed to be world famous but it had lemon flavoring in it and neither I nor momma was crazy about it) and your food.

I got the cheeseburger-a-plenty. My cheeseburger is somewhere underneath the pile of french fries and onion rings. The burger wasn't anything to brag about but the onion rings were very yummy. We were going to get a famous milkshake but all the middle schoolers were in line so we decided to hit up McDonalds for a caramel frappe.

All in all I wouldn't hurry back to The Beacon. It was neat to go but I've definelty had better burgers elsewhere.

Day 15: Dreams

Day 15 of 30 Day's: Your Dreams

Dreams...hmmm... like as in the dream that I had last night or my dreams that I have for my life.

I'm gonna go with life dreams. My life dreams are very simple. I want to spend the rest of my life with the man I love and hopefully fill a house with a couple of kids. I want to continue teaching because I can't imagine doing anything else. I would love to go back to school and get my masters in administration just in case I ever wanted to become a prinicpal. I want to have a big yellow house with a wraparound porch and enough land for hubby to hunt on and have a few horses (even though I'm not a rider). I want to become the woman of God that I desire to be. I want to instill that quality in my children.

Day 11: Sibling Rivalry

Day 11 of 30 Day's: Your Siblings

I only have one sibling... meet my little brother Jeff.

I have talked about how close Jeff and I have always been on here before. I'm sure at one point he was the annoying little brother but the only memories I have of us are great ones.

I am definitely the protective older sister.

This is Jeff and his beautiful wife, Kirsten.

3 Decades Wise

Last week my friend, Lindsey, turned 30!!!!

Some of us girls went to eat at Old Stone for her birthday.
It was a lot of fun...great food, even better wine, and fabulous company.

Obviously Megan and I knew it was black and gray night.

The Cats Meow

On Saturday my family had a Halloween party for this sweet girl...

Aubrey, aka Wonder Woman, is my cousins daughter. Isn't she precious? She is the sweetest thing ever. All the Halloween decorations scared her though so she went around all night saying "Its scary down there".
While I love Halloween; I've just never really went all out with costumes. This year was no exception. At the last minute I bought a set of ears and tail and wore all black. I was a cat in case you can't tell.
I do have a funny story from one of my students.
Student: Mrs. D., what are you being for Halloween?
Me: a cat
Another student: You mean like Halle Berry in Cat Woman?
Me: umm, not so much. I'm more like an old fat house cat.

A Beachy Halloween

I'm baaaccckkk.
My way-to-short beach trip was wonderful! It was so nice to have a couple of days off work and just relax and not be stressed out by constant paperwork and distractions.

We got down Sunday afternoon and after getting settled in we went to eat crab legs. Yummy! They were so delicious! Sunday it was early to bed for me. Monday it was beautiful so we went and set on the beach after a scrumptious breakfast of homemade waffles, livermush, and biscuits. I took off walking and was so relieved just to have some time to myself and think.

After some rest and lots of reading (yay!) we went to get the best steak in the world. I'm telling you the honest truth when I say this steak is the best thing ever. The rolls and garlic mashed potatoes are not to shabby either. After dinner we went to Broadway at the Beach for a drink and some Monday Night Football. My momma is a huge Colts fan so we had to go watch the game with her. I love it when your in a bar and the loudest person in there is your momma hollaring at a football game. Bless her.

After some Krispy Kreme doughnuts, yes we did eat a lot on this trip; my jeans are a little tight today, it was off to bed for this super tired girl. We got up Tuesday, ate breakfast and headed home. I cannot wait for my next beach trip. I seriously think I could move there.

Pink Out

Last Friday was the school I teach at Pink Out Game.

Everyone was asked to wear pink to school and to the game Friday in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The field had the breast cancer awareness ribbons in each corner.

And even the end zones were "pinked out".

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003 and after two surgeries and radiation she has been cancer free for almost 7 years.

Quick Break

I am currently at the beach for a couple of days so I will be on a tiny blogging break. My cousin came in from California so mom and I brought him down to the beach house. I really needed this break. I took a couple of days off work and plan on doing nothing but relaxing, reading, and eating delicious food. Once I get home I will resume my 30 Days posts.
