Lift Me Up

A little daily encouragement for those who need it... including myself.

The Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. ~Psalm 84:11

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. ~ Psalm 56:3

Books I've Read Recently

Here are just a few books that I have recently marked off my list:

Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks

I am a huge Nicholas Sparks fan and this one did not disappoint. His last few books have been very predictable though.

The Pact by Jodi Picoult

As usual Ms. Picoult does not disappoint! I love everyone of her books and this was one of my new favorites from her. This book is also a Lifetime movie as are many of her books and I am going to be looking for it to come on.

Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman

This book was different but not in a bad way. I would read another book by her.

The Scarlet Thread by Francine Rivers

I love Francine Rivers. Redeeming Love was one of the best books I've ever read. This one was also good but it took me a while to get through it. Her books are certainly not light and easy reads.
What are some books that you have read lately?

Work It Out

I had my first ever professional massage yesterday and it was WONDERFUL!
I can imagine myself getting one everyday. Lord knows I've been stressed to the max lately and it was a great way to relax some. Too bad that the relaxing mood didn't last long after I left. Btw, that's not me in the photo above. I have a little more back fat then that. lol.

Wishful Wednesday

I wish I were here...
Actually I just wish I was anywhere but where I am.
I'm not ready to share too many details but right now my life is a mess of my own making. I imagine this is what drowning feels like. Completely helpless; at times unable to breath. I can feel myself sinking deeper and deeper; yet I can't make myself swim to the top. And no one
can save me but myself. Which seems to be the one person that I can't count on right now.

Things I'm Loving

Heres just a few things that I'm loving this week:

My new cowboy boots! I wear these with everything.

The new Vera Bradley patterns. I have a birthday coming up soon and one of these will certainly be making my wish list.

Cougar Town... funniest show I've seen in a long time.
The new Inst-Dri nail polish in Mochachino. This color is great for fall and winter.

This man.

Update in Pictures

A few weekends back mom and I went to the Comedy Zone to see one of my oldest and best friends preform. Michelle practically lived with us for a few years in jr. high and high school. She has lived in Florida for the past two years with her husband and two children doing stand up comedy. This was the 2nd time that I had seen her preform but it was momma's first time and it was so much fun. I can't wait to see her again.

My dad is the construction teacher at the same school I teach at. His classes have been building a dog house to enter in the county wide doghouse competition at Dogtoberfest this past Saturday. They won 1st place and the People's Choice. Great job Daddy!

Last weekend Hubs and I went to a local county fair. We got a yummy funnel cake and walked around looking at the exhibits. Fairs are one of my favorite things about fall.

I was nominated for Teacher of the Year and Hubs sent me these beautiful flowers to school to say congratulations. (I didn't win but it was still nice to be nominated)

Spirit Week: Green & Gold and Homecoming Night

I am finally finishing up my Spirit Week posts even though now it has been 2 weeks since Homecoming. Friday is always Green and Gold Day with a big pep rally to end the day.
I, along with 2 of my co-workers, are over the Homecoming festivities so immediately after school we had to go and get the parade started.

Later we had pictures on the field before the game. This is Lindsey and I with Tori. She is one of our athletes and just an all around great girl.
Us with Leanna (aka Booger). Isn't she gorgeous. Her dress was so pretty.

BCHS Royalty: Homecoming runner-up, Miss BCHS, Carousal Princess, and our new Homecoming Queen.

Congratulations Miss Tori on being named the 2010 Homecoming Queen

Just Like Momma Makes

Is there anything better than homecookin? I don't think so but this place...
is pretty darn close.
Cracker Barrel is one of my favorite places to eat. I always get the dumplins (hold the chicken, please), mac and cheese, and a biscuit. Carb overload but worth every bite!
Just the other weekend I enjoyed a wonderful lunch there with three of my favorite women.
My momma and MawMaw

me and my 2nd momma.

This is my mom's best friend and she has helped raise me since I was born.

Spirit Week: Celebrity Day

Thursday was Celebrity Day. This one was really hard for me and since I didn't want to spend any money on an actual costume I decided to be cheap and go for Snooki from Jersey Shore.

You can't really tell it in this picture but I was proud of my poof. It was pretty high. No one really knew who I was supposed to be. In fact several students asked me if I was Kim Kardashian.

My friend Lindsey's costume was really unique and cute. She was OctoMom. See all her babies?

My First College Player

Ashley played softball for me last year. After graduating she decided to continue her softball career by playing college ball for Western Carolina University.

She's just a freshman so she isn't getting to play a lot right now but I know she has a great college career ahead of her. Ashley is one of the most dedicated girls I have ever had the pleasure of coaching.

I can't wait to see her play when games actually start in the spring.

Spirit Week: Twin Day

Last Wednesday was Twin Day for Spirit Week.
Of course Lindsey and I had to be twins.

We already had the same brown shirts so we paired those with dark jeans, Sperry's, and camouflage baseball hats. We'll jump at any chance to not have to fix our hair.
Chuck and Bryan and Lindsey and I.

There were even some triplets on Twin Day like these hippies.

Spirit Week: Hillbilly Day

I know its been a couple of days since I posted but I'm continuing my Spirit Week posts.

Last Tuesday was Hillbilly Day.

Wendy and I in our Hillbilly attire.

Some teachers and a few students.

Lindsey, me , and Megan.
I told ya'll that us teachers enjoy Spirit Week as much as the students do.

Lindsey and I. How do you like my freckles?

Spirit Week: Tacky Day

I'm sure that most of you know by now that I am high school teacher. Well , I'm also over the Homecoming activities at our school and last week was Homecoming Week. Monday through Friday is considered Spirit Week and each day has a different theme.
Monday was Tacky Day.

Now, normally I hate Tacky Day. I seem to spend way more time then necessary trying to pick out what to wear when really I should just throw on whatever is around. Isn't that the point of being tacky? As you can see from the picture above, I did look pretty bad. Everyone kept saying I looked like Olivia Newton John in a 80's workout video.
The teachers enjoy Spirit Week as much as the students do. I kept telling Lindsey that she looked like a rodeo clown.
Of course I had to throw in some animal print. And whats more tacky then mixing them!

Day 10: What You Wore

Day 10 of 30 Days: What you wore

I created this a day early so this is actually what I am wearing today which when I post this tomorrow will be what I wore yesterday. Have I thoroughly confused you yet? Good.

This top is Apt. 9 from Kohl's (of course, where else would it be from if it's on my back?). Apt. 9 is my favorite brand of clothing just because they always have great dress clothes for work. This shirt is a sheer black shirt with cream dots and ruffles down the middle. I pair it with black dress pants and shiny black flats.

Btw, this picture was taken earlier in the school year. Can't you tell how hard us teacher's work?

Amazing

The miners in Chile's rescue is just another example of God's amazing grace.

Can you imagine the emotions of these men and their families?

I wanted to stay home all day just so I could watch more of the rescues.

8 Questions x 2

Mrs. S @ Southerland Living tagged me to complete this fun questionnaire. I love these questions!

1) What kind of laundry detergent do you use?

Whatever is on sale. I really like the Tide with Febreeze or the Gain in the pink bottle.
2) What is your least favorite chore around the house?
unloading the dishwasher. I HATE it! I would rather wash dishes by hand and dry them then have to unload the dishwasher.
3) If you could go to any restaurant for dinner (money no option) Where would you go?
A restaurant that I would love to go back to is Ruth Chris. We went there last year to celebrate mom's retirement and it was so yummy. I got the stuffed chicken breast and it was delicious!

4) What is your favorite type of cheese?
I love any type of cheese. My favorite is Hickory Farms cheese balls. Mom and I always buy a few at Christmas and will eat one while wrapping Christmas gifts. Its one of my favorite traditions.
5) What store do you love to shop at (for clothes)?
I am a shopaholic but I'me very loyal to certain stores. Almost 100% of my clothes, shoes, and accessories come from Kohls, JCPenney, or Old Navy. I really like Old Navy for casual clothes but all of my work clothes come from the other 2. JCPenny's Worthington brand dress pants fit me better than anything else.

6) What kind of car do you drive?
A 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. I had a 2006 model before and loved it so when Hubs and I decided to get me a new car he wanted to upgrade to a new model and I'm so glad that I listened to him. It has ton's of room without being too big.
7) Favorite book of all time?
Oh my, this is a really hard question for me because I LOVE to read! I recently read Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers and loved it but I wouldn't say it was my favorite. I really like Jodi Picoult, Nicholas Sparks, Sophie Kinsella, and Emiliy Giffin.

8) Alcoholic bev of choice?
Beer. I'm a simple gal. Although I do love a good Margarita with extra salt.

I was also tagged by my wonderful new friend @ It's the World I Know. If you haven't checked out her blog then rush over there. She keeps me laughing and I love hearing her stories.

1. What was the last thing you ate?
a toasted whole wheat English muffin with honey

2. What is one of your best childhood memories?
getting to see my entire family every Tuesday night at my grand parents. My grandmother cooked dinner every week and we would all come over. There is at least 30 of us.

3. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you were older?
a dental hygienist

4. Do you paint your toenails in the winter?
of course. any proper Southern gal knows that your toenails should always be painted.

5. Do you watch any reality television? If so, what show is your favorite?
Unfortunately I love reality tv. My favorites are The Bachelor/Bachelorettes and The Biggest Loser.

6. What were some of the "trends" when you were a kid?
I was an 80's child so Rainbow Bright, Care Bears, Flintstones, The Jetsons, Strawberry Shortcake, The Smurfs, Scooby Doo... I loved them all

7. What is your favorite time of the year? Why?
Fall, because I love the smells, tastes, cooler weather (well maybe not here in the south), clothes, and of course the football.

8. Do you have any hobbies?
is shopping a hobby? I love to read. Give me a good book and I am set.
I tag anyone that wants to play along. Sorry, I know its the easy way out.
